HEAVY-DUTY TRUCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REPAIR

AFTERTREATMENT COMPONENTS EXPLAINED

A super important part of your exhaust system is your aftertreatment components. These components either store, convert or prevent diesel emissions in an effort to protect our natural environment. These components include your DPF, your SCR catalyst, your DOC catalyst, and your EGR system. Out of these four emissions control components, your EGR system is the only part not directly incorporated into your exhaust tubing and is instead integrated into your engine.

YOUR DPF EXPLAINED

Your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) captures carbon and soot and stores it within itself. Since your DPF has a finite storage capacity, it will need to be cleaned out once every few years. Fortunately, many DPFs now have automatic regeneration modes that allow for this carbon and soot to be burned off. In some cases, this regeneration mode needs to be activated manually. This is known as forced regeneration and is a service we provide here at Hook-N-Haul.

YOUR SCR AND DOC CATALYSTS EXPLAINED

Your SCR and DOC catalysts are responsible for converting NOx, carbon monoxide, and other harmful pollutants into their most basic components. This renders the pollutants harmless, therefore lessening your diesel engine’s impact on our natural environment. If these components fail or malfunction, you will see either an exhaust warning light or a check engine light on your dashboard. In some cases, your truck may even go into limp mode.
