TRUCK AXLE REPAIR IN LITCHFIELD, OH & EVANS CITY, PA

AXLE SHAFTS EXPLAINED

Your axle shafts are directly connected to your wheel hub and are what transfer power from your differential to your wheels. Although these axle shafts are incredibly durable and don’t generally require repair or replacement, there are times in which repair is a must. One of the most common causes of axle shaft damage is lubrication failure, which can occur when gear oil isn’t changed at appropriate intervals or if the gear oil leaks. Lubrication failure leads to increased friction and heat, which may ultimately cause the axle shaft to snap. Fortunately, we here at Hook-N-Haul or more than capable of replacing snapped axle shafts. More importantly, we’ll change your gear oil and stop any leaks before snapped axle repair becomes necessary!

SERVICING AXLE SHAFTS

Since your axle shaft shares a housing with your differential, both components use the same gear oil. This gear oil is typically pumped into the housing through a filler valve in your differential plate, therefore allowing it to coat both your differential gears and your axle shafts. This fluid needs to be drained and replaced once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. This service interval may change depending on how much use the truck gets.
